Social Media use and lack of Comms

Dear Community,

We are reassuring you that no matter what happens, Wilfrid’s Café will remain open, welcoming, and as part of the Community Hub will remain at the heart of our village. Every trustee of Friends of Droxford Church (FODC) shares that commitment.

We know our recent communications could have been better. Events unfolded quickly, with social media discussion and media attention arriving faster than expected. At the time, we chose not to join the online debate, in line with guidance for charities, but we recognise this left some people feeling unsure about what was happening, so we are reaching out to change that.

As a registered charity, we must follow Charity Commission guidance on how we use social media. That guidance is clear: our communications must support the charity’s purpose, avoid harm, and comply with the law.

St Wilfrid

Public disputes, even when claims are unfounded, can damage trust, split opinion, and overshadow the work we are here to do. Our priority has been to avoid fuelling division and to keep us all focussed on serving the community.

From now on, we will:

  • Post official updates on our website first, then share them on social media.
  • Keep our messages factual, concise, and focused on the future of Wilfrid’s Café.
  • Use direct, private conversations for sensitive matters, rather than public group discussions.

If you have a question or concern, you can always email us at info@friendsofdroxfordchurch.org.uk or speak with a trustee in person. We’ll make sure you get the same, accurate information that’s shared with the whole community.

Thank You

We’re grateful for the patience, care, and support you’ve shown for Wilfrid’s. By focusing on what unites us, no matter what, we can ensure the café continues to be a positive, shared space for everyone.
